PRP injections
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are a minimally invasive procedure that uses the patient’s own blood to help repair injured tissues. PRP is a concentrated form of platelets, which are blood cells that help to clot blood and heal injuries.
PRP injections are used to treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Arthritis
- Tendonitis
- Plantar fasciitis
- Shin splints
- Golfer’s elbow
- Tennis elbow
PRP injections work by stimulating the body’s natural healing process. The platelets in PRP release growth factors, which help to repair damaged tissues.
The procedure takes about 30 minutes.
The patient’s blood is drawn and then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood. The concentrated platelets are then injected into the injured area.
PRP injections are generally well-tolerated, but some people may experience side effects, such as bruising, pain, and swelling. These side effects usually go away on their own within a few days.
If you are considering PRP injections, we encourage you to make an appointment to see Dr Sara Safari to learn more about the risks and benefits of this procedure. Dr Sara Safari currently only administers PRP injections at her rooms in Knox Orthopaedic Group.
