Mpox, also known as monkeypox, is a viral infection that can spread through close physical contact, respiratory droplets and contact with contaminated surfaces.

It can cause symptoms such as rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and in some cases, can lead to severe illness.

Why Get Vaccinated?

Vaccination is an effective way to reduce your risk of infection, especially if you are in a higher-risk group. With the recent outbreaks primarily affecting certain groups, such as men who have sex with men (MSM), vaccination helps protect both individuals and the broader community.

Who is Eligible?

The Mpox vaccine is available to individuals who meet specific eligibility criteria, which include:
  • Sexually active men who have sex with men (MSM) and their partners
  • Transgender and gender-diverse people at risk of Mpox exposure
  • Sex workers and their intimate contacts
  • Staff and attendees at sex-on-premises venues
  • Laboratory personnel who work with orthopoxviruses
  • Certain healthcare workers who may be exposed to patients with Mpox based on local risk assessments

If you meet the eligibility criteria or have questions about whether you qualify, speak to your doctor to help determine your eligibility.

About the Vaccine

The Mpox vaccine (JYNNEOS®) is administered in two doses, spaced 28 days apart, to provide optimal protection. Vaccination takes approximately 14 days after the second dose to become fully effective. For those recently exposed, a post-exposure vaccine (PEP) is also available if administered within 4 days of exposure.
