Important Information About Fees
The fees above represent the expected out-of-pocket cost for eligible Medicare patients following the applicable Medicare rebate.
- The final fee may vary depending on the nature, size, location and complexity of the lesion, and the procedure required.
- Medicare rebates depend on the procedure performed and whether it meets the relevant Medicare eligibility criteria.
- Cosmetic procedures and removal of benign lesions may not qualify for a Medicare rebate.
- Additional consultation fees may apply where a separate consultation is required.
- Payment is expected on the day of the procedure.
Your doctor will discuss the recommended procedure and expected costs with you before proceeding.

How Much Does Medicare Cover for Skin Cancer Removal?
Medicare rebates for skin cancer excisions vary considerably depending on the location, size and type of skin cancer, as well as the extent of surgery required.
For example, based on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (July 2026):
- A small skin cancer on the trunk: Removal of a confirmed basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma requiring an excision smaller than 15 mm may attract a Medicare rebate of $161.05 (MBS item 31365).
- A melanoma on the nose: Removal of a confirmed melanoma requiring an excision of 6 mm or more may attract a Medicare rebate of $363.25 (MBS item 31371).
These examples demonstrate why the total procedure fee can vary, even when the out-of-pocket cost is similar.
Your doctor will explain the expected cost of your procedure, including any Medicare rebate and out-of-pocket expenses, before proceeding.
