Frequently Asked Questions

Fees and payments

What are the fees for Medicare cardholders?

The standard fee for a face-to-face consult is $90. You will receive $43.90 back from Medicare, which means that your out-of-pocket cost is $46.10.

Please refer to our list of fees for further information.

Why is there a gap fee for appointments?

We are a private billing practice because we believe in quality over quantity. A lot separates us from other clinics, primarily our breadth of experience and our dedication to exceptional healthcare.

Where high-volume clinics might have you in and out in minutes, the GPs at Warrandyte Road Clinic will not rush your appointment. We spend the time necessary to address your medical needs thoroughly.

Does Warrandyte Road Clinic bulk-bill?

The doctors consulting at Warrandyte Road Clinic operate private practices and do not bulk-bill by default, with payment expected on the day.

Your doctor may have the discretion to bulk-bill your appointment if it is very brief, eg. if the call is purely for a simple matter such as a repeat prescription for an issue that has been discussed previously.

However, we bulk-bill the following groups:

  • Patients with a Veterans Affairs card
  • Care plans for patients with a chronic condition. If you have a chronic disease, please ask your doctor if you are eligible for a care plan. This may allow you to have a bulk-billed appointment up to every 3 months
  • Annual health assessments for patients over 75 years old
  • COVID-19 vaccinations
How much does it cost to see Dorevitch Pathology?

If you have a valid Medicare card, most standard pathology tests are covered by Medicare.

However, you may be charged for specific services such as ECGs and other specialised tests. Please ask your pathology collector at the time of your test if you are unsure.

Doctors

Are all the GPs trained in Australia?

Yes. You can rest assured that every doctor at our clinic has trained or worked in Australian hospitals. Additionally, all our GPs participate in the RACGP’s Quality Improvement and Continuing Professional Development Program to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in medical science.

What if I can’t see my usual GP?

If your preferred doctor is unavailable, you can be confident seeing another GP at our clinic.

All our doctors take extensive notes during appointments. These notes, along with your test results and history, are accessible to the entire medical team, ensuring your continuity of care is not affected.

Appointments

Should I book a Standard or Long appointment?

To ensure our doctors have enough time to care for you properly, please select the appointment type that best matches your needs.

  • Standard Appointment (15 minutes): Best for single, straightforward issues. Examples include repeat prescriptions, coughs and colds, or standard immunisations.

  • Long Appointment (30 minutes): Necessary if you have multiple health concerns or require more detailed care. Please book this for mental health discussions, annual check-ups, or Cervical Screening Tests (CST).

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Phone/video consultations with your doctor are available by appointment, as long as you have had a face-to-face appointment with at this clinic within the previous 12 months.

Many issues can be sorted over the phone without requiring a face-to-face consultation. Your doctor can arrange for electronic prescriptions to be sent to your pharmacy or to your phone/email, and for referrals and pathology/radiology requests to be forwarded to providers.

Where can the consultation be provided?

You can participate in a video/telephone consultation from anywhere, including your home. Please ensure that you are in a quiet place to minimise disturbance during the consultation.

You may also choose to have the consultation whilst sitting in the carpark of Warrandyte Road Clinic. This may be useful in the instance that the GP would like to examine you either in the car park, or in the clinic if deemed safe and appropriate by the GP.

What happens at the telehealth consultation?

If you booked a telephone consultation with our reception staff, your GP will ring you on your mobile phone as close as possible to your appointment time. Please ensure you are available to take the call.

Can I still have a face-to-face appointment?

Yes! Many issues can’t be solved over the phone. In this case, your doctor will arrange for you to have a face-to-face appointment.

Is it OK to bring along family or friends to my appointment?

To ensure your doctor can focus entirely on your medical needs and to keep the clinic running on time, we ask that you limit the number of people attending with you where possible.

However, we fully understand the responsibilities of parents and carers. If you require a support person to help you get the most out of your consultation, they are always warmly welcome.

Why do I sometimes have to wait to see my GP?

We respect your time and aim to stay on schedule. However, medical emergencies or complex needs sometimes require us to spend extra time with a patient.

We extend this courtesy to everyone to ensure the best possible care. If we are running significantly behind, we will try to notify you in advance so you can arrive a bit later.

However, if you have been waiting longer than 30 minutes, please approach our reception staff.

How do I cancel my appointment?

You can cancel an appointment by contacting us at least one hour before your appointment time.

If you’ve booked online, simply reply to the appointment confirmation text message you received upon booking.

By cancelling with one hour’s notice, we can offer your appointment to another patient.

If you fail to cancel with adequate notice or don’t show up at all, you may be charged a no-show fee.

Repeat Scripts, Referrals, Test Results and Medical Records

How do I get my test results?

In general, you are encouraged to schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss test results with your doctor.

Returning for your test results allows your doctor to explain how your results relate to your specific health status, answer any questions you may have, and collaborate with you on a tailored plan for ongoing care.

How do I get my medical records sent from my previous GP clinic?

We can request your medical records be sent to us from your previous clinic.

Simply complete a Request for Medical History Transfer form online, and we’ll submit it for you. Please be aware that your previous clinic may charge a fee for this service.

How do I transfer my medical records to another GP clinic?

We are happy to transfer your medical records to a new practice if required. Please ask your new clinic to send us a direct transfer request.

To ensure the security of your private health information, we transfer all records via Registered Post. We do not use email for record transfers as it does not meet security standards recommended by the Department of Health. Please note a small fee applies to cover the cost of materials and postage.

How do I send the clinic feedback?

We welcome your feedback! You can leave written comments in our suggestion box, located in our waiting room or email us at info@wrclinic.com.au. If you have any concerns we encourage you to contact us, or speak with your doctor.

If you feel you require an external avenue, you may contact the Health Services Commission, 30th Floor, 570 Bourke Street, Melbourne. Ph 1800136066.
